Questions about quotes, artwork and installation
Answers to the questions we are asked most often. If your question is not here, WhatsApp or call us.
Quotes
How do I get a quote?
Fill in the quote form on this website. You can also call or WhatsApp us on 083 414 8761, or email andrew@prodigygraphics.co.za. Tell us what you need, about how big it is, where it is going and when you need it. Photos and artwork help, but you can send them later.
What information do you need to quote?
We need the size (width and height, in millimetres if you can) and the quantity. Tell us if it is for indoors or outdoors, and if you need us to fit it. A photo of the wall, window, vehicle or shopfront, taken straight on, helps a lot. If you are not sure about materials, say so and we will advise.
Why are there no prices on the website?
Almost every job is different, so we quote each one. We make most items to the size and specification of one job. The price depends on the size, the material, the artwork and whether we fit it. Send us the details and we will send you a written quote.
Do you print one-offs and small quantities?
Yes. Much of our work is a single item, such as one wall of wallpaper, one canvas, one shopfront sign or one banner. We also print larger quantities of stickers, decals and signs. Tell us the quantity when you ask for a quote.
What areas do you work in?
We work across Cape Town, including the Peninsula, the City Bowl and the Northern Suburbs, and in the Winelands. Our studio is in Plumstead in the Southern Suburbs. We have made signs for clients in Piketberg and Franschhoek. If you are further away, ask us and we will tell you what is possible.
Artwork
What file type should I send for printing?
A print-ready PDF is best. We also accept AI and EPS files, and high-resolution TIFF, JPG or PNG images. Logos and lettering should be vector files. Our artwork guidelines page explains sizes, resolution and bleed.
Can you design the artwork for me?
Yes. We design as well as print. We design banner layouts, signs, wallpaper, wall graphics and full branding. Send your logo, photos, wording and any examples you like. We will make a design for you to approve.
Can I use a photo from my phone?
Often, yes, if you send the original file. Photos sent through WhatsApp or saved from social media are compressed and lose detail. Send the photo as a document on WhatsApp, or by email. We check every image at the size you want, and we will tell you if it will look blurred.
My logo is only a JPG. Can you still use it?
Yes, for a flat print that is not too large, if the JPG is sharp. For cut vinyl lettering, laser cutting or 3D letters, we need a vector file, such as AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF. The cutting machine follows the lines in the file. If you do not have a vector file, we can redraw your logo.
Will I see a proof before you print?
Yes. You get a proof that shows the layout and size. You check and approve it before we start production. Check the spelling, phone numbers and colours on the proof, because we print what you approve.
Why does the printed colour look different from my screen?
Screens and print make colour in different ways. A screen uses light, and print uses ink on a surface. Ink cannot match some bright screen colours exactly, and the material also changes how colour looks. For brand colours, give us Pantone references. We will match them as closely as the material allows.
Wallpaper
How do I measure my wall for wallpaper or a mural?
Measure the full width and the full height at the widest and tallest points, in millimetres if you can. Note any windows, doors or plug points. Send these measurements with a photo of the wall taken straight on. We add a little extra for trimming.
Is there removable wallpaper for a rented home?
Yes. You can peel off self-adhesive removable wallpaper and wall vinyl later. This suits rentals and kids' rooms. Check with your landlord first, and tell us it must be removable when you ask for a quote.
Should I choose wallpaper or wall decals?
It depends on how much of the wall you want to cover. Wallpaper or a mural covers the whole wall with a photo, pattern or texture. Cut vinyl decals and lettering put words, a logo or shapes on a painted wall, and the paint still shows around them. Our guide to wallpaper versus wall decals compares the two in detail.
Signage
Can you do illuminated signs?
Yes. We make light boxes, halo-lit and face-lit letters and neon-style LED signs for shopfronts, receptions, practices and estates. Examples include the halo-lit crests at La Motte and the Bergrivier Dental sign. Send a photo of where the sign will go and we will suggest what suits it.
Do I need permission for a sign outside my shop?
Possibly. Outdoor signs in Cape Town may need approval from the City of Cape Town, especially illuminated signs. Landlords and centre managers usually have their own rules too. Check with both before the sign is made.
Installation
Do you install what you make?
Yes. We can fit most of what we make, including wallpaper, wall vinyl, window film and signs. Tell us where the job is and what surface it goes on. We will confirm the fitting when we quote.
How should I prepare a wall or window before fitting?
Make sure walls are smooth, clean, dry and in good condition. Fill any cracks, and let new paint cure fully. Clean the glass and remove old stickers and glue. If you are not sure, send us photos and we will tell you what your surface needs.
Visiting
Can I visit the studio?
Yes. The studio is at Shop 4, The Village Square, Plumstead, Cape Town. Please call or WhatsApp us on 083 414 8761 before you come, so we can make sure someone is there to help you.
