Window film, frosting and printed glass

Prodigy Graphics designs, prints and cuts frosted window film, glass manifestation and printed window graphics in Cape Town. We work for offices, boardrooms, shops, hotels and homes. Frosted film gives privacy and still lets daylight through. We can cut it into a logo, a pattern or lettering. Our glass work includes a hexagon pattern on office partitions, frosted lettering at Lanzerac in Stellenbosch and portraits by Rembrandt and Vermeer printed across the panes of glass doors.

02More information

Frosted film for privacy

Frosted window film is a thin self-adhesive vinyl. It makes clear glass look like etched or sandblasted glass. People on the other side look like soft shapes, and daylight still comes through. This is why it is often used on boardrooms, glass offices, bathroom windows and shopfronts that face the street. It can cover a whole pane, or only a band at eye level with clear glass above and below.

Patterns, logos and manifestation

Large glass doors and partitions need markings so that people see the glass and do not walk into it. These markings are called manifestation. They can also be part of your design. On a row of office partitions, we used a frosted band of hexagons. It marks the glass and also works as decoration.

We can also cut frosted film into lettering and logos. One example is the Lanzerac name in frosted film on the glass of a reception office at Lanzerac in Stellenbosch. Coloured vinyl works in the same way. Another example is the gold Parshuis Old Cellar lettering on the arched glass doors at La Motte.

Printed window film

We can also print on window film. On one set of folding glass doors, we printed a grass silhouette on frosted film. The doors now have a design on them, and the room stays private.

On two wooden doors, we printed a Rembrandt portrait and Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring across the panes. Each picture continues across the panes, between the wooden glazing bars. Printed film also works on shop windows for promotions, opening hours and your branding. See more in our window film projects.

How to measure and prepare the glass

Measure each pane inside the frame or beading, width first and then height. Count how many panes there are. Photos from both sides help us see frames, handles and anything in the way. Film must go onto clean glass, so remove old film, paint spots and stickers first.

Tell us if the film must be removable later, for example in a rented office. Also tell us if a landlord or shopping centre has rules about what can go on the windows.

FAQ

Window film & frosting: questions

Have another question? Contact us or read the full FAQ.

01Can you see through frosted window film?
Not clearly. Frosted film blurs the view, so people and objects behind it look like soft shapes. Daylight still comes through. If you only need privacy at eye level, we can fit a frosted band across that part and leave clear glass above and below.
02What is glass manifestation and do I need it?
Manifestation is markings on large glass doors and partitions. The markings make the glass easy to see, so people do not walk into it. A frosted band, a row of dots or a pattern like our hexagon design all work, and they can include your logo. If your landlord, architect or building manager has a specification for it, send it to us and we will follow it.
03Can you print a photograph or artwork onto a glass door?
Yes. Two wooden glass doors in our gallery have a Rembrandt portrait and Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring printed across every pane. Each picture continues across the panes, between the wooden glazing bars. Send the largest, best quality image you have. We will check that it suits the size of the door.
04Can window film be removed later?
Yes. You can peel off window film and clean the glass, so it suits rented offices and shops. Tell us if the film is temporary and we will advise you on the right type.
05How do I clean frosted window film?
Use a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner. Do not use blades, scrapers or scouring pads on the side with the film. Wipe towards the edges of the film, not into them, so the edges do not lift.
06What do you need from me for a window film quote?
Send the width and height of each pane, measured inside the frame, and the number of panes. Add photos of the glass from both sides. Tell us if you want full privacy, a band or a design, and send your logo if it is going on the glass. We will confirm the details when we quote.
