Words, logos and pictures for your walls

A wall graphic puts your message on a wall where people will see it. In an office, this might be the logo behind reception, the company values along a corridor, or a funny line in the kitchen. Office walls we have done say Welcome to work, What’s cooking, and First I drink coffee, then I do things.

In a shop or cafe, it is usually a feature wall with a picture or a theme. One example is the green camper van on an open road at Fresh Stop in Airport City.

Cut lettering or printed graphics

There are two main ways to put graphics on a wall. The first is cut vinyl lettering. We cut it from solid-colour vinyl, so only the letters stay on the wall, with no background. It suits words, simple logos and clean shapes.

The second is printed graphics. We print them in full colour on self-adhesive vinyl. Then we cut them to shape or trim them to the wall. This means they can show photos, colour gradients and detailed artwork. The heritage timeline at Piket Implemente uses large black and white photos from the 1940s to the 1980s.

How we size graphics to your wall

We work from the width and height of your wall and a photo taken straight on. We scale the design to fit the wall without stretching it. We also look at furniture, light switches, doors and windows. People cannot read lettering that is hidden behind a couch or a coffee machine. We plan the design around these things and show you the layout on your wall before we cut anything.

We also put graphics on ceilings. In the office refit in our gallery, we printed a geometric pattern on the ceiling panels and a flowing line graphic along the wall. We planned both as one design.

Which walls are suitable

Vinyl sticks best to smooth, clean, firm paint. Fresh paint needs time to cure first. Vinyl does not stick properly to rough plaster, flaking paint or damp walls. If you are not sure, send a photo and we will tell you if your wall is ready.

A vector logo gives the sharpest edges. Our artwork guidelines explain the file types. For a printed design that covers a whole wall from edge to edge, see custom wallpaper and wall murals.

FAQ

Wall graphics & decals: questions

Have another question? Contact us or read the full FAQ.

01What is the difference between cut vinyl lettering and a printed decal?
We cut vinyl lettering from a sheet of solid-colour vinyl. Only the letters stay on the wall, with no background. We print a decal in full colour and then cut it to shape, so it can show photos, colour gradients and detailed logos. Many walls have both, for example a printed logo with cut lettering for the words around it.
02Can vinyl lettering go on a painted wall?
Yes, if the paint is smooth, clean and fully cured. Fresh paint needs time to cure before we apply vinyl. Vinyl does not stick properly to rough plaster, flaking paint or damp walls. Send a photo of the wall and we will tell you if it is ready.
03Will wall vinyl damage my paint when it comes off?
Usually not. Wall vinyl is made to be removed, and it usually peels cleanly off firm, well-bonded paint. Weak or badly prepared paint can come off with it, so you may need to touch up the paint. If you rent, or the graphic is for a short campaign, tell us and we will advise you on the vinyl.
04What should I send you for a wall graphic quote?
Send the width and height of the wall, a photo taken straight on, and your logo or the words you want. A vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) gives the cleanest edges. If you only have a small image, we can redraw it. Our artwork guidelines explain the file types.
05Can you design the wording and layout for us?
Yes. We design artwork as well as print it. Send us a rough idea, a phrase or a sketch. We will lay it out to suit the wall, your brand fonts and the furniture in front of it. You approve the layout before we cut anything.
06Do you put the graphics up as well?
It depends on the job. Tell us if you need the graphic fitted when you ask for a quote. Long lines of lettering and graphics in several parts must be level and lined up exactly. We will confirm how fitting works for your wall when we quote.
