02More information

Banners and displays for events, markets and expos

Print at an event must be easy to see and understand quickly. A banner on a fence shows people where to go. People can see a flag at a market stall from across the field. A stand at an expo must show who you are, even to people who do not stop to read.

Our event work includes the lotus mandala stage front at Earthdance Cape Town in Kogel Bay and the black and gold Wildfire expo stand. It also includes branded counters for Pick n Pay and ALDO, and coffee trailers with teardrop flags and A-frame menu boards.

PVC banners and mesh banners

PVC banners are solid and give the brightest print. They suit walls, stages, shopfronts and places sheltered from the wind. Mesh banners have small holes that let the wind through.

This is important in Cape Town. On fences, scaffolding and open sites, a strong south-easter pushes hard against a solid banner. Mesh puts much less strain on the banner and its fixings. We can finish both types with hems and eyelets, or with pole pockets.

Flags, pull-ups and banner walls

Teardrop and telescopic flags fly from a flexible pole and turn with the wind. They stand on a spike in grass or on a weighted base on paving.

Pull-up banners roll down into their own base, so you can set them up and pack them away quickly. This is why people often use them at receptions, launches and conference tables. Banner walls and media walls give you a backdrop for photos, interviews and stands. If you already own the hardware, we can print a new graphic for it.

Artwork that people can read from far away

People read banners and displays quickly, often from far away. Keep the wording short. Make your name and what you offer the biggest things on it. Use strong contrast between the text and the background. Do not put important words at the bottom of a pull-up, because tables and people block that part.

Send print-ready files, or ask us to design them. Our artwork guidelines explain resolution and bleed. For trailers and food trucks, see vehicle and trailer branding.

FAQ

Banners, flags & displays: questions

Have another question? Contact us or read the full FAQ.

01What is the difference between a PVC banner and a mesh banner?
A PVC banner is solid and gives the brightest print. It suits walls, stages and places sheltered from the wind. A mesh banner has small holes that let the wind through. This puts less strain on the banner and its fixings on fences, scaffolding and open sites. We can hem both types and add eyelets for tying them up.
02Can you reprint the graphic for my existing pull-up banner?
Often, yes. Tell us the make of the stand if you know it. If not, measure the visible print area and the width of the base. We can then print a replacement graphic. We will confirm that it suits your stand when we quote.
03How do I hang a PVC banner?
Use the eyelets. Tie the banner to a fence, frame or scaffold with cable ties or bungee cords. Keep the tension even on all sides so it does not flap or tear. On a wall, put screws with washers through the eyelets. Banners with pole pockets slide onto a pole or batten.
04Do teardrop flags work in the Cape Town wind?
Yes, in a normal breeze. Teardrop and telescopic flags are made to turn and fly in the wind. Use a ground spike on grass or a weighted base on paving. In a strong south-easter, take them down, as you would a gazebo.
05What size should my banner be?
It depends on how far away people will read it. A banner on a fence along a busy road needs very large, short wording. People read a pull-up at a stand from a couple of metres away. Tell us where it is going and we will suggest a size and layout.
06Can you do a complete exhibition stand?
We print the graphics for a stand. These include tall panels, banner walls, counter fronts, flags and pull-ups, like the black and gold Wildfire stand in our gallery. Tell us the stand size and the system the organiser provides. We will make the graphics to fit its panel sizes.
