Earthdance Cape Town: a printed lotus mandala stage front

The printed stage front

The front of the main stage at Earthdance Cape Town is covered in a printed lotus mandala design. A round arch sits around the DJ booth in the centre. Large blue and white petals form a ring around the arch. A round mandala disc stands on each side. The discs have fine white line patterns on deep blue. Rings of green dots run around their edges and match the green in the petals. The stage stands among the trees and mountains of Kogel Bay, and the printed front gives the crowd one clear point to look at.

Why print suits festival stages

Printing is a practical way to put a detailed design onto a large stage. Large-format printing shows fine lines and strong colours clearly, exactly as the artist drew them.
