Shopfront signs, window graphics and in-store branding for shops

Prodigy Graphics makes shopfront signs, illuminated letters, window graphics and in-store wall graphics for shops in Cape Town. Our studio is in Plumstead. We made Woodstock Laundry's lit gold perspex letters on a matt black fascia, Queen of Steel's gold script lettering and Wildfire's signs. Outside Cape Town, we made the red 3D letters and wayfinding signs at Piket Implemente in Piketberg.

01What we make for you

Printing and signage for retail & shopfronts

Fascia signs

We put your name on the fascia, large and clear, at the right height. Woodstock Laundry's illuminated gold perspex letters are easy to see on a matt black fascia, in the day and at night.

Window graphics

Window vinyl can show your logo, opening hours and offers. Frosted film can hide a storeroom from view. Queen of Steel has gold script lettering and a large moth on the glass.

Signs for a whole site

Larger premises need signs on the boundary wall, at the entrance and at reception. Piket Implemente has red 3D letters on stone walls, Hoof Ingang / Main Entrance wayfinding and a round P logo with est. 1933.

Graphics inside the store

Wall graphics make a store look different from other stores. The Fresh Stop at Airport City has a road-trip wall graphic of a green camper van on an open road.

Signs for shopping centres

Shopping centres have rules on sign size, colour and lighting. Wildfire's Body Piercing sign has raised lettering above its shopfront in a mall.

03More information

The sign above the door

People decide in a few seconds whether to stop at a shop. The fascia sign is usually the first thing they see. Woodstock Laundry has illuminated gold perspex letters on a matt black fascia. The letters are simple, easy to read from the pavement and lit at night. Queen of Steel chose gold script lettering with a moth on the glass below. This style suits a piercing and tattoo shop. The Wildfire shopfront is also gold on black. Its Body Piercing sign has raised lettering above a shopfront in a mall.

Our shopfront signs page explains the options. The illuminated signs page covers lit letters and light boxes.

Windows and glass

A shop window can show more than your logo. It can show your opening hours, your phone number and what you sell. A frosted band can hide a storeroom and still let light in. The salon shopfront in our house and salon signs has window graphics and a fascia sign in the same style, so the whole front matches. See stickers, decals and vinyl and window film and frosting.

Bigger sites and wayfinding

A business on its own site needs signs on the boundary, at the entrance and inside. At Piket Implemente in Piketberg there are red 3D Piket letters on stone walls. There are also Hoof Ingang / Main Entrance wayfinding signs in both languages, a round P logo with est. 1933 and a navy sign panel on dark metal cladding. Inside, the same letters are on a reclaimed timber reception wall, next to a heritage timeline of black and white photographs. Read more about 3D letters and reception signs.

Inside the store

Inside the shop, wall graphics can show your brand and what you sell. The Fresh Stop store at Airport City has a road-trip wall graphic of a green camper van on an open road, with Airport City lettering around it. We print wall graphics and decals to fit your walls. A job can be one feature wall behind the till or a whole store. Send us photos and measurements, or ask for a quote.

FAQ

Common questions

Have another question? Contact us or read the full FAQ.

01What size should my shopfront sign be?
It depends on how far away people are when they first see it. That could be across a busy road or a few metres along a mall walkway. Send us a photo of the shopfront taken straight on and the fascia measurements. We will put a mock-up of the sign on the photo, so you can judge the size before we make anything.
02Do I need permission for a shop sign in Cape Town?
Often, yes. Many signs need approval under the City of Cape Town's signage by-law. Landlords and shopping centres usually have their own rules too. Check with your landlord first. We can supply a mock-up of the sign on your shopfront to send with the application.
03Should my shop sign be lit?
Yes, if you are open after dark or people walk past in the evening. A lit sign is easy to see at night. The options include lit letters like Woodstock Laundry's, halo-lit letters and light boxes. A lit sign needs power close by, so plan for it early.
04Can you do the window graphics as well as the sign?
Yes. We often make the window vinyl, frosted film and printed graphics at the same time as the sign, so the colours and lettering match. Send us the window measurements and your logo files.
