Signage, wallpaper and branding for wine estates and hotels

Prodigy Graphics makes signage, wallpaper and interior graphics for wine estates, hotels, spas and restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands. Our studio is in Plumstead. We made the signage suite at La Motte in Franschhoek, with halo-lit crests in the cellar and on the tasting counter. At Lanzerac in Stellenbosch, we made the illuminated hotel sign and the spa branding, and printed the damask stairwell wallpaper.

01What we make for you

Printing and signage for wine estates & hospitality

A matching set of signs for the estate

An estate has many doors, such as the tasting room, cellar, bakery, deli and farm shop. At La Motte each door has its own name sign, and all the signs share one style. Proeflokaal is above the tasting room door, and Plaaswinkel is over an arched brick doorway.

Halo-lit crests and logos

A halo-lit crest makes a soft glow on the wall behind it. This suits a dim barrel cellar or an oak tasting counter. Lanzerac's illuminated hotel sign shows the crest, 1692 and five stars.

Wallpaper for curved and awkward walls

We print wallpaper to fit awkward walls. At Lanzerac, our blue and white damask runs up a curved stairwell past brass wall lamps. It also covers the wall above the leather banquettes in the restaurant.

Signs for old buildings

Simple lettering on white walls, arches and glass keeps the old building in view. One example is the gold Parshuis Old Cellar lettering on an arched door with green shutters on each side.

Spa, bar and reception signs

We make branded bar fronts, crest lettering for reception fascias and frosted lettering for office glass. We also make feature pieces such as a laser-cut cork world map.

03More information

A matching set of signs for the estate

A wine estate has many buildings, and guests use the signs to find their way. At La Motte in Franschhoek, the red crest and estate lettering are on the entrance wall, with its Anno 1695. They are also on the signs for the Proeflokaal, the barrel cellar, the Bakkery, Spens Farm Pantry, L’Ami Family Boulangerie, the Atelier Creative Studio and the Plaaswinkel.

We made each sign to suit its wall. There are brushed metal letters on oak and gold lettering on the glass of the arched Parshuis Old Cellar door. There are raised white letters above the tasting room and a hanging sign under the Bakkery’s steel canopy. When you plan the signs as a set, the fonts, colours and finishes stay the same. A new venue on the farm can then get a matching sign later. Our 3D letters and reception signs page covers the materials.

Halo-lit crests and hotel signs

Cellars and tasting rooms are often dim. A lit crest is easy to see in these rooms. The La Motte crests are halo-lit. The light sits behind the crest and makes a glow on the wall around it. There are crests at the end of a vaulted barrel cellar and on the front of an oak tasting counter. At Lanzerac Hotel & Spa in Stellenbosch, the illuminated hotel sign shows the estate crest, 1692 and five stars. See illuminated signs and light boxes for the options. That page also explains what a lit sign needs on site. The first thing it needs is a power supply close by.

Wallpaper and interior graphics

Hotels and restaurants often need wallpaper and graphics inside, as well as signs outside. At Lanzerac, we printed blue and white damask wallpaper to fit the stairwell and the restaurant. The wallpaper runs up the curved stairwell past brass wall lamps. It also covers the wall above the restaurant’s leather banquettes. Around the spa there are branded bar fronts, and the crest and lettering on a black reception fascia. There is also frosted Lanzerac lettering on the glass of a reception office and a laser-cut cork world map on a black wall.

FAQ

Common questions

Have another question? Contact us or read the full FAQ.

01Can you make a matching set of signs for every building on our estate?
Yes. Send us photos of each door and wall, your logo files and a list of the names you need. We design the set so every sign, from the entrance to the farm shop, uses the same lettering, crest and finishes. At La Motte, one matching set of signs covers many buildings.
02What does halo-lit mean?
It means the light comes from behind the sign. The letters or crest stand slightly off the wall, with the lights hidden behind them. The light shines back onto the wall and makes a glow around each shape. People can read the sign at night, and the front of the sign is not bright. The red crests at La Motte work this way.
03Do you work on estates outside Cape Town?
Yes. We have made signs for clients in Piketberg and Franschhoek, and our wallpaper is on the stairwell at Lanzerac in Stellenbosch. Send us your details and photos of the site. We will confirm installation and travel when we quote.
04Can wallpaper go on a curved stairwell wall?
Yes. The damask wallpaper at Lanzerac runs up a curved stairwell from the bottom to the top. Curved and double-height walls need more measuring and planning than a flat wall. Send us photos and measurements, and we will advise you.
