La Motte's red crest, backlit with a warm halo, mounted on an oak wall between the words Anno and 1695
Franschhoek

La Motte: estate signage and halo-lit crests

Halo-lit red crests in the cellar and tasting room, raised lettering on each building, a hanging bakery sign and gold lettering on glass doors.

Halo-lit crests

La Motte’s red crest appears across the estate. In the tasting room, the crest is mounted on an oak-clad wall. It is lit from behind, so a warm glow shines onto the timber around it. Brushed metal “Anno” and “1695” are on either side. The same lit crest is on the front of the oak tasting counter. Another is at the far end of the vaulted barrel cellar. There, it is the first thing you see between the rows of barrels. At the entrance, the crest is on a curved white wall above raised black “La Motte” lettering.

With halo lighting, the light is behind the sign and does not shine through its front. The crest stays a solid, deep red, and the glow falls on the wall around it. This soft light suits the oak and old brick of the estate buildings.

Signs for each building

Each part of the estate has its own sign. All the signs use the same style of lettering. Above the Proeflokaal wine tasting room, white “La Motte” letters are mounted a little away from a white wall. Their shadows make them easy to read. The venue name is in gold below. The Atelier Creative Studio sign is in brushed brass. The Spens Farm Pantry and L’Ami Family Brasserie signs are in gold. The Plaaswinkel name is above an arched brick doorway. At the arched entrance to Parshuis Old Cellar, the name is in gold lettering on the glass. The Welkom door has the red crest. The Bakkery has a green and gold sign hanging from a steel canopy.

Why the signs are simple

The signs are designed so that the buildings stay the main feature. The lettering is simple and well spaced. Only the crest is lit, so it stands out when you see it. See more illuminated signs, 3D letters and wine estate work.
