02More information

What 3D letters are

3D letters are cut one by one and fixed to the wall. They are not printed on a board. They have depth and cast shadows, and you see the wall between them. This makes them look permanent and well planned. Your name in raised letters on a reception wall makes your business look established.

Reception walls, entrance walls and estates

We have made signs for clients in Piketberg and Franschhoek. At Piket Implemente, red Piket letters and grey Implemente lettering are on a long stone wall. Next to them are direction signs for Hoof Ingang and Main Entrance. The same letters are also on a reclaimed timber wall at reception.

At La Motte, raised lettering shows the estate name on its entrance wall. Raised lettering also marks the Proeflokaal, Spens Farm Pantry and Atelier Creative Studio. The finishes include clean white and brushed brass. At Lanzerac Spa, the crest and lettering are on a black fascia above reception.

Materials and finishes

Most 3D letters are made from acrylic. Acrylic can be clear or coloured, painted in your brand colours, or finished to look like brushed metal. Thicker letters can be built up for more depth. The right choice depends on the wall, the light, and if the sign is inside or outside.

Letters can also be lit from behind for a halo glow. Our illuminated signs page explains this. Our laser and CNC cutting page explains how the letters are cut.

How to plan your sign

Send us a photo of the wall taken straight on, its width and height, and your logo files. Vector files are best. We can place the lettering on your photo, so you can check the size and position before anything is made.

As a general guideline, people should be able to read the sign from where they first see it. This might be the car park, the front door or the lift. We will confirm materials, fixing and fitting when we quote.

FAQ

3D letters & reception signs: questions

Have another question? Contact us or read the full FAQ.

01What are 3D letters made from?
Most are cut from acrylic. Acrylic can be clear or coloured, painted in your brand colours, or finished to look like brushed metal. Thicker letters can be built up for more depth. The best material depends on the wall, the light, and if the sign is inside or outside. We will recommend options when we quote.
02What is the difference between 3D letters and a flat sign?
A flat sign is printed or lettered onto a single board. 3D letters are cut one by one and fixed to the wall. They have depth and cast shadows, and you see the wall between them. This looks more permanent. They can also be lit from behind for a halo effect.
03Can 3D letters go on a stone or timber wall?
Yes. The red Piket Implemente letters are on a stone-clad entrance wall. The same letters are on a reclaimed timber wall at reception inside. Letters can be fixed a little away from the wall, so an uneven surface does not show behind them. Send us photos of your wall so we can plan the fixing.
04Do 3D letters work outdoors?
Yes, if the materials and fixings are chosen for sun, wind and rain. Our outdoor lettering includes the La Motte entrance wall and the Piket Implemente boundary wall. Tell us where the sign is going and we will recommend suitable materials.
05How big should the letters on my reception wall be?
It depends on where visitors first see the wall. The letters must be big enough to read from that point, such as the front door, the lift or the car park. Leave enough space around the edges. We can place your lettering on a photo of the wall, so you can check the size before anything is made.
06Can you match our brand fonts and colours?
Yes. Send your brand guide or logo files, and we use your fonts and colour references. We match paint and acrylic colours as closely as the materials allow. You approve the design first.
