Home murals: wallpaper in bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen and a nursery
Peonies, misty forests and a tree-lined avenue behind beds, jungle leaves in a guest toilet, wood and brick effects, robots in a nursery and an antique map.
Murals behind beds
The wall behind a bed is a popular place for a mural. You see it as you walk in, and furniture covers very little of it. In these homes, the murals behind the beds show large peonies on a dark background and a black and white avenue of trees. Others show misty pine forests, a giant butterfly and an antique world map. Big, simple pictures work best here. Choose one strong subject, and place the important part of the picture above the headboard.
Bathrooms, toilets and lounges
Bathrooms and guest toilets are small rooms. A bold design in a small room is a small job, and guests notice it. In one narrow bathroom, a mural of rocks, fynbos and forest covers the walls. A guest toilet has wallpaper with black and white jungle leaves. In a lounge, there is a large tropical leaf print. A botanical cycad mural covers a wall in a sunny room with arched windows.
Wood and brick effect wallpaper
Some of these wallpapers look like wood or brick. Weathered wood-plank wallpaper covers a kitchen wall behind pendant lights. It also covers a bedroom wall behind a daybed. Red brick wallpaper covers the back of a set of open shelves. These papers give the look of timber or face brick without any building work. In a nursery, a robot pattern runs behind the cot.
